On the 12th March, 2020, a newly-mutated virus known as Coronavirus (or Covid-19) was declared a worldwide pandemic.
Despite efforts to reduce the spread by advising social distancing, the decision was made in the UK to close 'non-essential' businesses, ask employees to work from home where practicable, and not interact with people outside of households.
On 23rd March, all schools were closed to all but the very vulnerable children and those of key workers - nurses and doctors, care givers, supermarket workers and delivery drivers. Children were encouraged to stay at home and be educated by parents, while social distancing became a catch phrase and panic buyers decided that toilet rolls were going to run out...
In one of his speeches to the nation, our Prime Minister Boris Johnson announced that the UK needed to do more - and effectively put the nation into lockdown. From the 24th March, we were to stay at home, leave only for essential journeys or for a maximum of one hour's exercise outside.
What this means for me, and a lot of people, is that we suddenly have a lot of time at home, without much direction. I rely on commissions from businesses - and while the Government have offered help to support employees and employers through this crisis, there is still so much uncertainty.
Never one to rest on my laurels, I am using this downtime to work on myself - every day is a school day, and this is a great opportunity to spend some quality time improving myself - and what I can offer you!
